Whether you want to up size or downsize or you are moving to another city or state, selling your home may be on your to-do list. Most people know they will need to clean up, organize, and repair their home before listing on the market to sell, but updating the home with a fresh look is also important. Fortunately, a fresh coat of paint here and there throughout the home can be a great investment. Here are a few ways paint can prepare your home to sell.

Siding

The exterior of your home plays a large role in its underlying value. Therefore, make sure the exterior is not only in good condition, but also appealing to potential buyers.

If you have fiber cement siding, a fresh coat of paint can do wonders for the curb appeal. Avoid any colors that are too bold, since most buyers will find neutral colors most attractive.

Don't always assume white is your best option for siding. A neutral cream, beige, or even gray can be a great alternative.

Also, make sure to update trim to complement your new siding color. For example, if you are opting for a crisp and clean white siding color, repaint all trim work in a fresh black to give your home nice contrast and definition.

Interior

Potential buyers will most likely not love the camouflage walls in the man cave and stark purple in your daughter's room.  You will also need to use some paint on the interior of your home before listing the house for sale.

Again, neutral is key but that does not mean white and builder's grade eggshell is your only option.

New neutrals that appeal to today's buyers include grey and greige, which is a combination of gray and beige together. Also, sage green, lavender, light blue, and even various shades of browns and purples. Use common sense when choosing paint colors, remembering what you would want to see when shopping for your next home.

Accents

Fresh paint can also be used to accent different areas in and outside the home.

Consider adding pops of color with accent walls. A bedroom wall in a flat black can make a statement, ensuring potential buyers remember your home when viewing so many others on the market.

Paint planters and flower pots in bright and bold colors for the front porch, as well. This can add a bit of fun and whimsy to your curb appeal, adding enormous value to the house.
