The entryway is one of the highest-traffic areas in most homes. Every time somebody leaves or comes home, they walk through there. As such, you'll want to choose a tough and durable flooring material for your entryway. Ceramic Tile

Large ceramic tile is a common choice for entryways. Ceramic itself is incredibly hard and resistant to wear. After all, it is also used to make dental crowns! You want large-format ceramic tile to minimize the amount of grout in your floor. Grout clings onto dirt and dust more than the ceramic will. Ceramic tile has a smooth surface, comes in many different colors and patterns, and is fairly affordable. One small downside is that it is very hard and therefore not the best choice if someone has a high risk of falling on it.

Engineered Hardwood

You would probably not want to use natural hardwood in an entryway, as it would wear out too quickly. Engineered hardwood, on the other hand, can be a very smart choice. This flooring has a layer of hardwood on top, so it looks like hardwood. But underneath, it has layers of built-in padding and hard-wearing material. This reduces wear over the years and also makes the flooring feel softer underfoot. One small downfall of engineered hardwood is that it is quite expensive. It can also be time-consuming to install.

Slate Tile

If you're looking for a more natural alternative to ceramic tile, then slate tile may be a good choice for your entryway. This tile is made from real slate stone. It comes in various shades of gray. Slate is hard-wearing, abundant, and relatively affordable. However, much like ceramic tile, it is very hard and may not the terribly comfortable to stand on for longer periods.

Luxury Vinyl Tile

Luxury vinyl tile is a newer kind of flooring that consists of a layer of vinyl on top, plus layers of padding underneath. It comes in many patterns, some of which are made to look like slate or wood. Luxury vinyl tile feels comfortable underfoot and is relatively easy to install. It wipes clean with just water or a mild detergent, which is nice in an entryway. However, it can be on the expensive side.
